Certified Gas Line Repair & Replacement

Merrell Plumbing is certified in repairing and installing Gas Lines. This is especially important when working with gas leaks.  If you smell gas in your home, there is a problem that needs fixed.

Gas leaks are common in homes that use gas appliances, gas fireplaces, gas heating, gas water heaters or even can come from a gas grill. These can be dangerous if not taken care of right away. You want to make sure that the gas leak is fixed correctly by a licensed plumber.

Clogged Drains

Some people ignore clogged drains in their sinks but the issue inevitably always gets worse. A sink that is draining slowly could be due to a clog, grease buildup or other issues in the pipe. It is best to clear the clogged drain as soon as you notice it because allowing the problem to get worse can result in a leak or broken pipe leaving you with water damage in your home.

Signs of a clogged sink, tub, or toilet:

  • Water drains slowly
  • Standing water
  • Water that stands and then suddenly disappears with a powerful gurgling noise.

Prevent future clogged drains

  • Don’t flush items that do not dissolve or break apart in water, such as feminine products or baby wipes.
  • Don’t pour grease or kitchen oil down your drains.
  • Be careful putting larger materials down your kitchen sink such as coffee grounds.
  • Clean drain stoppers and purchase a hair-straining drain trap for your showers and tubs.

Frozen Pipes

Freezing temperatures during the winter can cause big issues for your pipes. This is due to the water expanding when it freezes and causing pressure on the pipes. No matter the strength of the pipe, enough pressure can cause it to break.

When pipes burst, gallons of water can seep into your home each minute.

What to do if your pipe freezes or breaks?

If your pipes are frozen but have not burst, you can carefully attempt thaw the pipe and keep the area warm. With a hair dryer on low heat setting you can wave the warm air back and forth along the pipe. However, you need to be VERY CAREFUL because the pipe you are thawing may already be broken or cracked somewhere where you are unable to see it. Water could come shooting out of the pipe as the water thaws.

If the pipe has burst or you think there may be a crack, the first step to take is to shut off the water and water heater. The next best step is to call a licensed plumber. Call 937-435-1222 for same day or emergency service if you see a broken pipe in your home.

Preventing Frozen Pipes

The Department of Public Utilities urges residents to take steps to prevent both water pipes and meters from freezing.

Keeping Pipes Warm

  • Eliminate cold drafts near pipes.
  • Tightly close doors and windows to the outside and eliminate drafts.
  • Fill any cracks in walls and around windows.
  • Wrap pipes in insulation or heat tape.
  • Open cabinet door below the sink to allow warm air from your home to reach the pipes.

Keep water flowing

  • Flowing water often breaks up ice below freezing.
  • It's less expensive to run your faucet regularly than for you to repair a frozen or burst pipe.

At Merrell Plumbing, we do Custom Installation, Service, Maintenance & Winterization on all brands of Irrigation and Sprinkler Systems. An Irrigation and Sprinkler System is a valuable investment to any home or business.  Because an irrigation system is connected to your main plumbing system, you need a plumber that is properly licensed and knows what they are doing. Leaky Pipes

It's important to keep an eye out for even the smallest leaks so that it can be repaired before turning into a bigger problem. Leaks can mean money wasted on a much larger water bill or eventually money spent repairing significant water damage to your home.

According to government research "The average household's leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year and ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day." Much of the time, people can't see or don't notice the leaks.

Common areas where you may find a leaky pipe:

  • Toilets
  • Faucets
  • Showers and tubs
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Main water lines
  • Whole house humidifiers

Warning signs that you have a leak:

  • Drips - watch for signs of water drops or the sound of dripping when your plumbing isn't in use.
  • Rust - Is there is rust in any area of your home near water systems you could have a leak.
  • Water puddles - may accumulate if the pipe has been dripping for a while
  • Excessive water bill - if your bill is suddenly much larger than it's been before you may need to take a closer look at your plumbing.
  • Mold - If there is mold in your home interior this is a sign that there is far too much moisture in the area.
  • Bulging or soft areas of your drywall could mean a pipe leaking water behind them.

Sewer & Drain Service

Is your drain or sewer backing up? This could be due to tree roots. Trees growing near an underground sewer line on your property send out long feeder roots searching for nutrients. Once tree roots find a leak in a sewer line, they will invade your pipes, which causes water flow blockage and pipe damage. At Merrell Plumbing, we have all of the necessary equipment to fix the issue correctly the first time. With our trenchless technology, your landscaping, yard, and driveway remain intact while we work on the broken pipes. We use Video Camera Inspection to see what needs to be done to fix the pipe damage. We clean Sewers & Drains as well. We are Certified in Backflow Testing. We also install & repair Water & Gas Lines.

Water Heater Replacements

Tankless water heaters, also called instantaneous or on-demand water heaters, provide hot water only when you need it. Therefore, they avoid the standby heat losses associated with storage water heaters - resulting in an energy savings for you. Traditional storage water heaters keep water heated continuously and hold the heated water in a storage tank.

When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. In an electric Tankless Water Heater an electric element heats the water. In a gas-fired Tankless Water Heater a gas burner heats the water. As a result, Tankless Water Heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water. You don't need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water.

Tankless water heaters cannot supply enough hot water for simultaneous, multiple uses in large households. For example, taking a shower and running the dishwasher at the same time can stretch a Tankless Water Heater to its limit. To overcome this problem, you can install a "whole house" type Tankless Water Heater or install two or more Tankless Water Heaters, connected in parallel for simultaneous demands of hot water. You can also install separate Tankless Water Heaters for appliances - such as a clothes washer or dishwater - that use a lot of hot water in your home.

Give us a call and we'll help you make the right choice for your situation.

  • Need a water heater? We have all these major brand water heaters in stock - regardless of whether you choose tankless or traditional water heaters. When you buy from us, you get these additional benefits, including our exclusive warranty.
  • Already purchased a new water heater? No problem. We will be happy to install any water heater you have already purchased.
